I got my very first DSLR camera today. It is an early birthday present, partly from my family (thanks Mum and Dad!).

I am so so excited!

I have never considered myself much of a photographer before. I always thought one needs to have a special eye, a talent to capture those special moments. A talent that I don't have. So I just thought that photos are not that important to me, I preferred "being" in the moment on a holiday and not to carry  heavy equipment around, waiting for the light to become perfect.

Well, things have changed. I have changed. With a rocket fast growing child, I just want to capture all the moments, and I feel I don't mind waiting for the best light any more.

I am so excited to see the world from a different angle. It is such a long road I am just going to step on and even though I might have no talent, I still can walk. x

After a week of panadol, cough medicine and billions of cups of hot tea, it was nice to be able to get out of bed (both Dougal and me at the same time), and spend the gorgeous sunny Sunday afternoon outside.

We went to Copacabana Beach, had coffee, chatted with locals, watched kids playing around and Isabelle took her very first walk on the beach by herself. Our little monkey. So confident and happy, she could conquer the whole world.

And then we watched the whales at Captain Cook Lookout, and saw a couple of them, breaching and enjoying the winter sun just like we were.

Dinner was big and comforting (and home-made, of course), because we do need our comfort food at the moment: hot smoked river trout with oven roasted oranges, carrots and parsnips, Jamie's good old French bean salad and a ricotta and cherry cake. Life is good! x

Hello there!

It was another dark, rainy, miserable winter day yesterday. And I decided it was the best time to start my blog. I know. The expression "best time" is pretty funny when you have a 14-month old toddling around, but if I am waiting for the "real best time" it will never happen.

The reasons why I am starting this blog are quite versatile:

- I would like to give an opportunity for our family and friends who live on different parts of the world and so far away from us to be more involved in our life 

- I would like to give the opportunity for myself to appreciate the little everyday wonders of our life more
- I think one day Isabelle would enjoy going through pictures and stories of our life, so will we with Dougal, and this is a good way to document the moments

- It will give me routine, and I need routine, I like routine, it helps me to be organized

- It might be a good forum to reach Dougal with some issues I am thinking about or I need help at. Talking to him is not an option, he is always "in the middle of doing something".

- I am pretty bad at sending photos to family members, hopefully I will be better at writing this diary.

I will do my best.
